《 What is Sjogren’s syndrome?》

Sjogren’s Syndrome
It is a chronic and progressive autoimmune disease that mainly destroys the body’s exocrine glands such as lacrimal glands and salivary glands. Therefore, there will be dry mouth and dry eyes. Sjogren’s syndrome can be divided into two types: primary and secondary. The primary symptoms are only dry mouth and dry eyes. In addition to the symptoms of dry mouth and eyes, the secondary is also accompanied by other autoimmune diseases, such as lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, polymyositis, nodular polyarteritis, systemic scleroderma Symptoms such as biliary sclerosis and biliary sclerosis.

Cause of illness

Your own immune system can’t distinguish the difference between foreign harmful substances and your own, so it begins to invade your own organs, leading to chronic inflammation, pain, and weakness.

Symptom

In addition to the symptoms of dryness, other symptoms are common in Sjogren: joint pain or joints (60-70%), Raynaud’s phenomenon (35-40%), esophageal dysfunction (33-35%), lymph gland enlargement (15-20) %), vasculitis (5-10%), lung disease (10-20%), medical disease (10-15%). The symptoms of primary sjogren’s arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are the same as those of the common joints, but the symptoms are milder and do not cause the erosion of articular cartilage.

  1. Eyes: There are often dry eyes, foreign body sensation and burning sensation, itching, blurring, redness or photophobia, which makes the eyes easy to fatigue. All are due to lack of tears, resulting in chronic dry conjunctivitis.
  2. Salivary glands: difficulty in swallowing dry food, altered taste, burning sensation, increased tooth decay, gastroesophageal reflux.
  3. Reproductive organs: vaginal dryness.
  4. Digestive organs: The stomach may also be violated, causing gastritis and insufficient gastric acid secretion.

●Sjogren’s syndrome is a relatively benign autoimmune disease, which generally does not affect the normal life expectancy, but various dry symptoms caused by insufficient exocrine glands will worsen the quality of life. Therefore, the degree to which Saugram’s syndrome affects each patient is different, so a special treatment plan is required. In order to help combat dryness and avoid more problems in the future, please do follow the doctor’s treatment plan and accept that it should be done.
