Top 10 most liveable cities in the world in 2021

New Zealand’s major city, Auckland is the world’s most liveable city in 2021

The annual report of the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) in the United Kingdom scores the stability, infrastructure, education and healthcare of 140 cities around the world, and arrives at the final ranking.

Affected by the decisive factor of the new crown epidemic, the scores of European cities have generally fallen, and cities in Australia and New Zealand have climbed, occupying a total of six places in the top ten.

Although the epidemic in Japan continues to be severe, the capital Tokyo and the major western capital Osaka have been able to maintain their scores within the top ten due to their continued high stability scores.

The EIU pointed out: “Auckland has climbed to the top because of its success in containing the COVID-19 epidemic. The city has managed to keep society open and the city scores a lot.”

European cities have performed particularly poorly this year

From a global perspective, the EIU said that the epidemic has made major cities less livable than before. “European cities have performed particularly poorly this year. Among the 10 cities with the worst decline in the ranking, the European Union accounts for eight.”

Among them, Vienna, Austria, fell from the top of the 2019 list to 12th. Prior to this, Vienna had won the first place for several consecutive years, and had repeatedly fought with Melbourne, Australia.

The steepest decline was Hamburg, Germany, which dropped 34 consecutively this year, ranking 47th.

Affected by the second wave of the epidemic, Canada’s Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto also fell out of the top ten.

The ranking of the least livable cities has not changed much

The ranking of the most livable cities has changed significantly, while the ranking of the least livable cities has not changed much. The Syrian civil war continues to keep the capital Damascus at the top of the list. Most of the other cities ranked as the least livable cities have been affected by armed conflicts, putting pressure on their medical systems and infrastructure.
